Hello Club Members, Newsletter December 2011 We are sending out his newsletter to inform you that a new slate of officers has been proposed for the 2012 driving year. According to our club By-Laws, club members my submit names of suitable candidates for the various offices. The slate of officers as proposed is : President– Mug Tomany, Vice President Cat Luce, Treasurer—Bonnie Jean, Secretary– Christine Bailey, Members at Large– Janice Meszoely and Pat Musser. If you have anyone to add you can send the info to Mug at mtomany@sbcglobal.net. We will be voting on the officers at the January 8th, 2012 meeting. Please plan to attend this meeting at Janice Meszoely’s house ,158 S. Main St, Mansfield, MA. We will be celebrating 12th Night with a pot luck dinner and a Dutch Auction. If you have an item to donate just bring it along. All funds go to support RIDC programs At the November meeting club members shared what they have been doing this past year. Some of the highlights: Pat Musser recently acquired a pair of VSE’s. She had a great time at RIDC Show even with the impending hurricane as did all of our competitors. She also won a beautiful plate at the Sturbridge Village Sleigh Rally with her pony Taff. Mug Tomany, Janice Meszoely, Kate Bushman, and Bob Koopmen and spouses went on a trip to Mohonk house in New Paltz NY with their horses. They rented a cottage on the property for 4 days and reported that they drove or rode twice a day on beautiful groomed trails. Christine Bailey with the help of Pat Hubble hooked her Morgan, Poppy, for the first time this summer. All went well! Congratulations. Our club now has a published author of a children’s book. Cat Luce has recently published The Milk Horse , available through Amazon.com. Vicki Beuttel won a costume contest with her mini’s and has recently put together a 4-in-hand hitch of minis. Mug was a mile marker at the 150th Anniversary of the Mt. Washington Carriage Road where they closed the road to auto traffic and allowed riders and carriages to go to the summit of Mt. Washington. It was 8 miles up with the last 3 miles above tree line. Our own Peter VonHalem went up with a unicorn hitch. He was one of 5 carriages that made the trip. To see some great pictures go the Mt. Washington auto road.com.
RIDC Carriage Days 2011
We had a shorten version of the show this year due to the unwelcome arrival of Hurricane Irene. We managed to get in our Dressage and Timed obstacles before the rain started. The show grounds looked lovely due to the tents that were set up by John St. Cyr’s Showtime Stall Rentals. We would have washed away without them. Thanks to Diane Koopmen quick thinking we were able to feed everyone a hot cooked meal before they headed home. Thanks to our judges Marsha Himler from NY, John Freiburger from WI and our TD Dana Bright from PA we were able to keep everyone safe and and on their way home in a timely manner. Any club members interested in being on the committee for 2012 please contact MTomany @ sbcglobal.net.
We have recently heard from some members who moved away . Carolyn Lemoine has a new horse and spent some time driving at Celtic Cross this summer. Sue Dougherty was here this summer and helped get the grounds ready for the show. She has recently acquired a mini, Driving Miss Daisy.
We have some great events planned for the new year. We have the trip to the Mid Winter Driving Forum in February. You can access the info on the Saratoga Driving Clubs web site. If you are interested in going let Mug know ASAP. We can get a group rate. Pat Musser has organized a personal tour of Mary and Harvey Waller’s wonderful Coach, Carriage and Sleigh collection in Stockbridge on March 31st. We have also booked Lisa Singer for a 3 day clinic in July. More info will be coming as we get closer to these event.
